Tender is the night

good writing. Fitsgerald in the same alcoholic situtain while writing the book, and died too early, 44.

always like great gatsby, but think some plots there a bit too storylike, too coincident, almost fake. maybe that is why it is attractive story. this one is more real, slow, tender story, sad side of the truth& life, and alert

A Man

no writing for 4 months? got to keep record of that book.

think about it is jsut 30 years ago. someone lived in such a life. real story. Faraci also a good writer, no wonder it is called masterpiece in Europe.

every chapter gives me surprise. a real surprise gift from reading Vogoe, cannot belive i found this book from there, from that girl's writing about her journalist life following Faraci, the life of Faraci and her books.

one of the best novel i have read these years, een i haven't finished it. esp, between the times of reading boring CFA books.

maybe because it is a small country, not many people care about what happens there. Americans only know it is a country that that rich guy marreis Ms. Kennedy. hmm, my roommate even do not know that. he said he knows no one who is famous in Greece last 50 or 100 years.

life goes on, shoudl not let CFA ruin my life. go on search my curry beef resipe.

yup, face problem not over yet.... it will though i don't know when.

almsot done the first round of CFA reading, really hate to start the 2nd round. reading the same stuff that i already understand, just read to memorise it for exam purpose is really a waist of my time. so many stupid things you have to do in your life, unbelievable.

also my skin problem popped up so badly, even larry and other colleague got to ask me and show some consideration in the office. what can I tell them. i promise this new dermetologist i will only follow his direction and not put anything on my face except the cream drug he gave to me. now seems bef getting any better, my face jsut get worse first. don't want to go out in cold weather and scare people on the street, better stay at home reading a novel.

hmm, complain so much bef i can talk about that book. you know Faraci? that Italian lady who interviewed Deng Xiaoping many years ago. she already died, the best political jounalist in her generation, well, some people may say the most aggressive one.

found her novel, "A Man", based on the real life of her lover, the assassinated assasinaser (sounds even funny, 2 events happened naturally in different years) in Greek between late 60s and early 70s. think about it is jsut 30 years ago. someone lived in such a life. real story. Faraci also a good writer, no wonder it is called a masterpiece in Europe.

every chapter gives me surprise. even i haven't finished it. I know it is one of the best novel i have read these years, what a pleasure in the time of reading boring CFA books. ( Friends told me seriously, Jun, you should read CFA only these days. I would die doing that)

maybe because it is a small country, not many people care about what happens there. Americans only know it is a country where a rich guy marreis ex-Mrs. Kennedy. hmm, my roommate even do not know that. he said he knows no one who is famous in Greece last 50 or 100 years. i asked him to stop telling me the name of those people or gods who died 1000 yrs ago.

can't wait finishing it. but also want to keep the pleasure of reading 1 chapter every night and keep myself happy every night bef sleep. this book worth my notes in my blog. no new post there for 4 months.

AKANA C.

just left a messenge to this person's mobile.

phone room in office was locked entier day, not know why. and i wnat to write down what i want to say then make the phone call. find the mobile # on bloomberg. if he checks messenge, should be enough time in weekend for him to respond.

or maybe better call office when he is there? if he is not happy about bonus, he may leave the firm :-)

i don't know if i should call again to his office later, say next week. or just wait for response.

the situation is we met several times during meeting, lunch, conference. he contacted me a couple of times, and had lunch once with me at least. at that time, i told larry, he said oh, he was JPM sales before, seems not think that one is a good research analyst type. and larry said, he may wnat to hire you.

we met larry's friend in singapore, small fund, 50mil, or even less. larry said that sng guy used to have 2 analyst, left him after one year building their track records. and his freind said he can never figure out or understand what those girls want or think., when i met them, he finally got a guy, senior, maybe as partner level. wonder if that is the model larry want to use.

during my trip in canada, that sng guy still sent me email asking if my freind will be interested, can call him at office directly, since last time i told him i have a friend senior, want to move to asian market side. so that should be jan 10-14th.

2006 and part 2005 stock picks & lessons

503 HK:
-- wanted to buy at 2+HKD. Private company, will be acquired, or just cheap assets to be acquired when it is low. although bumpy, still available assets, (not for holding long, but short term....) see the SNG listed Landwind now in jan 2007
-- but for speculation purpose, i may not be able to pass Larry's questions.
-- Therefore want to wait to buy after Q2 bad result coming out, but the corporate buyers will not wait then...

Landwind:
-- view as some people think it is the bottom, or worst will be over soon?

8HK:
-- valuable assets too, but strategic acquirers are always one step faster. Also did not realise financial buyers can buy first, then pick up good assets. thought it will be difficult for a corp buyer to buy it all for a mall portion meaningful aseets.
-- also very stable CF, (very important to PE)

NTES:
$ 17.23

Wanli 15 yr + new boots

finished "Wanli 15 nian" at tianyabook.com. very interesting and insightful macro-history view, esp, in his postscript. about china history, the structure of the society, the interest groups, etc. doubt after 30 years, there has ever been another history book with better view. got to ask dad to buy a print version for me in Shanghai.

just fought against my roommate. the result is the new boots (with huge box) i bought this friday now invade into the top of his closet space. no fight, no gain of extra closet space. and i never feel I have enough closet space

Ottawa and St. John's trip

back from a 6-day canadian trip last night. got my multiple entry visa, no longer need to interview for U.S. visas. feel as free as a bird now.

just the most horrible time traveling in Canada, anyone believing in global warming talk should stay in canada for the winter and convert to other thoeries. full of cancel, delay, change tickets, going through same customs, security check repeatedly due to schedule changes. looked like i almost have to stay at ottawa airport overnight if the last flight to NYC were also cancelled due to thick cloud in NY. When i finally flew into La Guardia, so many people in airport, looking like a refugee camp.

no pain no gain, my 2007 starts with certain acheivements.

Roma, Open City

a human being, made movie like that, no matter whatever else he did, is respectable.

cried at the exact ending.

remind me of Opera Tosca, that Australian martial movie...

Italians, very interesting people, strong feeling, drama, but also neorealistic

if thre is chance, better get another one with subtitle
